The Fresh click [ ^C ] or clave click is a short beatbox sound that is produced by the quick release of the tongue after being positioned on the roof of the mouth closing the airway.
When several click sounds are produced in a row in a very short time they are refered to as clickrolls.
In beatbox rhythms clicks and clickrolls are usually placed between kicks and snares and are therfore a versatile alternative to common hihats.
Click sounds are not limited to beatboxing, but have always been used as click consonants in several African languages.
As Doug E. Fresh was the first artist to frequently use these sounds in beatboxing, the click sounds are named after him. On the West Coast Click Tha Supah Latin was one of the early beatboxers to integrate his signature sound into his artist name.
